I’m an anesthesiologist and critical care specialist. I have been involved in organized medicine since I was a medical student, and have been in leadership roles since residency. I have been a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) since my first year of residency, and have achieved Fellowship in the society (FASA). I am a Past President and the current ASA Director of the California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA) .
I have been a Director and Webmaster for the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists. I am currently the VP for External Affairs (Advocacy & Policy) for the Santa Clara County Medical Association.
I am a partner in Vituity (formerly CEP America), and practice at O’Connor Hospital and Regional Medical Center, both part of the Santa Clara Valley Healthcare (SCVH) system. I currently serve as the O’Connor Hospital Department of Anesthesiology Chair, and am on the hospital system Bylaws Committee and Policy Review Team.
In all of these roles, I have consistently demonstrated leadership committed to improving each organization. This has included analyzing various workflows and processes, with the goal of simplifying and streamlining them. Through these activities, things are made more clear, more efficient, and easier to follow. I have actively edited Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, Administrative Procedures, and Policies.
My current ASA committee involvement includes the:
– Educational Subtrack Committee on Critical Care, Chair
– Committee on Bylaws, Vice-Chair
– Board Committee on Administrative Affairs, Chair
My past committees include:
– Committee on Informatics and Information Technology (CIIT, formerly titled Electronic Media and Information Technology, EMIT), Chair for 6 years
– Committee on Critical Care
– Committee on Trauma and Emergency Preparedness (COTEP)
– House Committee on Credentials, Chair for 3 years
After years of dealing with computers and software at the hospital, I decided to go back to school and get my master’s degree in Biomedical Informatics at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Although I had a lot of practical experience, I learned how to use the “correct lingo” to communicate clinical issues to tech staff and vice versa.
I come from a medical family. My father, David B. Doyle, was an obstetrician/gynecologist. My uncle, Anthony J. Monty, was a cardiologist. My cousin, Warren C. Doyle, is an emergency physician. (Note: I am not related to Christine B Doyle, who is an OB-Gyn. Check the middle initial:
A for Anesthesiologist, B for Babies.)
